n our extremely talented artist pool we have the luxury of being able to work with local icelandic talent and for our 6th instalment in the lagaffe series we managed cook up a long awaited collaboration with a close friend and producer intr0beatz. intr0beatz has been known in the local music scene for quite some time and became one of the most iconic hip hop producers in iceland with the group forgotten lores. after the scene evolved and took changes intr0beatz reinvented himself as a house music producer. with intr0beatz you never go wrong. a long time hip-hop producer went housey on us, and he got the groove. house and old school hip-hop have a lot in common sampling and chopping old disco/soul tracks is the foundation of both. so this came naturally for him. the four-tracker includes the tracks dumpin (a1), mystery ride (a2), tapas (b1) and desco (b2).

during the eighties it was possible to observe an italian fascination with the mysterious far east. this can be found across art, design and music in italy during this time, in subtle or obvious ways. specifically there are italo-disco records that proudly show this influence, some of the best known being: fun fun – -living in japan-, koto – -chinese revenge- and city-o – -rose of tokyo-.

following in this theme is fancy – -null null-. not to be confused with the famous euro-disco artist behind -slice me nice-, this fancy is a one-off project from italo-disco icon raffaele fiume, the artist and voice behind many great italo-disco hits, such as: helicon – -you ... see-, malcom & the bad girls – -shoot me- and ralph river band – -strange vibration-.

adding to the original tracks of the 1982 release is a totally ecstatic and powerful remix from betonkust: one of the most talented and exciting dutch producers of recent years. also included is an instrumental edit from hysteric, for those who find the unique vocals challenging.

one of detroits true talents today, amp fiddler joins forces with grammy winner louie vega hitting you with some funk deep house on vega records. amp fiddler is the quintessential singer / musician who has played in the seminal band parliament with george clinton, and has had his own band for years now. louie has always wanted to work with amp since first meeting him at the montreaux jazz festival when amp and his band and elements of life were on the same bill on the worldwide stage. finally coming together, amp reaches out to louie for a remix and the result is a beautiful soulful song written and produced by amp fiddler. the remixes by louie vega combining deep house sounds with the funk synths played by axel tosca. there’s one version where amp did more lead vocal overdubs and adlibs, as well a funktified synth solo version which gets immediate response when played. the four versions on 12” vinyl lend itself to different moods and are sure to bring you a dancefloor or house party on fire!

it’s always exciting to introduce new names to the spring theory roster and pedro vian, its latest addition, makes no exception to the rule. it’s also the 10th release on spring theory, so more reasons to rejoice! the barcelona-based producer came to (my) attention with his releases dancing hindus and titled beautiful things you left us for memories on his own label modern obscure music. this ep picks up some of the themes from those records and further explores of his style of elegiac synth lines and primitive drum machines. the sound of dancing alone with your eyes closed, late at night. haunting house for the heartbroken.

it sounded all right through two walls, so what s the problem? the final words of two walls, the fast and very catchy leading track of dj marcelle s new record, sum up an aesthetic almost lost in today s musical climate, where often a pleasing attitude and overproduced music sadly rule, even in so-called alternative circles. the quote comes from the late mark e. smith (1957 - 2018), legendary frontman of the fall, and is taken from some of the conversations marcelle had with smith over the years. smith is referring to a recording process but for marcelle his words stand for something bigger.

reissue of balearic gem spanglish movement from little known band hot pepper! originally released as a private pressing in 1978 and featuring famous drummer jesus munoz tilico, a giant musician who appeared on countless recordings and accompanied famous figures like paul mauriat and carl tjader among many others. four superb long tracks including the cosmic underground club classic ritual song. hot pepper was a studio project created by mexican drummer / producer /arranger jesus munoz tilico who in the late 70s decided to record an album in a disco-funk vein, helped by some of his friends who were top session musicians. “spanglish movement” was the result, written and produced by “tilico”, released in 1978 as a tiny private edition housed in a fabulous afro cover. being tilico an enormous drummer, you can expect here lots of heavy drums, congas and percussion, surrounded by crazy space synths, male-female vocals, latin horns, afro touches and occasional fuzz guitar.

just in time for summer, rnt drops a 3-tracker of tropical heat from brazilian outfit balako. although relative newcomers, their production prowess has been known to their rio de janeiro musical community and beyond for some time, and is on full display here. the a-side showcases their knack for modernizing the canonical brazilian mpb sound, from the deceptively demonic build of batuque, to the acidic-leaning lilt of deixa acontecer. the flip side takes a hard turn left of field with honey honey honey, a 9 minute opus of afro-brazilian disco insanity, primed for those balmy summertime roof parties.

legalize lambada step up for their 4th outing with four delectable afro disco edits from sputnik. ‘superlove see s sputnik channel a south-african take on early garage house before melting feeling fine , the reggae tinged, afro boogie gem. on the flip side, groove me unearths some feel good cameroonian disco gold complete with killer guitar solo, whilst rick closes out the e.p. dropping the tempo for a synth soul, slow jam. with early support from hunee, lexx and the likes, leg004 is shaping up to be one of the summers standouts.

amsterdam based luuk van dijk is welcomed into the hot creations fold this july with his heavy-hitting parallax e.p. chicago production wizard dj skull is also on board to rework the b-side. title track parallax is set to cause a serious stir at festivals and clubs alike this summer. the smattering of high-hats elevate the track as the space-like beeps and blips add another facet. on the flip, dimension applies an ominous vocal stab as the bass rumbles — perfect for low ceiling basement raves. on the remix, dj skull adds a touch of chicago class via some softer vocals, dubby chords and a pounding bass. at the tender age of 22, luuk van dijk has been signed to acclaimed labels such as viva music, roush, food music, sanity and lost records. championed by stalwarts such as steve lawler and eats everything, he has taken his sound to some of the world’s most prestigious events. ron maney aka dj skull became known for being one of the first djs to play the new sound coming out of chicago, honing his craft at the infamous music box and power plant. releasing records since the early 90s, he later launched his own labels hypnotic tones and wax candy records. recent releases have appeared on chiwax, domina trxxx and mentha records.

strut presents the brand new album an angel fell from cosmic jazz travellers the pyramids, led by saxophonist idris ackamoor. produced by malcolm catto of the heliocentrics, the album was recorded during an intense week at quatermass studios in london. some of the many highlights include the poignant title track depicting a fallen angel in purgatory, outrage and grief on the powerful, hard hitting soliloquy for michael brown and the lilting, beautiful album closer, sunset. the pyramids originally came together in 1972 at antioch college, yellow springs, ohio where teachers included renowned pianist, cecil taylor. after forming in paris and embarking on a cultural odyssey across africa, the group recorded three independent albums,‘lalibela (1973), king of kings (1974) and birth/speed/merging (1976) and became renowned for their striking live shows, mixing percussive, spiritual and space-age jazz with performance theatre and dance.

side b takes on one of nycity’s grimiest hip hop club anthems, mobb deep’s “burn”. we decided to do this tune and demoed it out long before the unfortunate passing of prodigy. unfortunately, he will never get to hear this cover, and that has been one of the nicest things in covering some of these more current hip hop tunes. rest in peace p.
brsb manages to do it again ... a version equally as raw and punchy as the original. pans bang out the iconic riff from the original, theremin ushers in the changes, and the low rubble of the synth bass is sure to crush the subwoofers.

the fourth release on manchester-focused label ad hoc brings together a range of outernational grooves from some fast-rising talents. cervo is aligned with the banana hill parties, and also previously released on black acre and lumberjacks in hell. his -hesse groove- takes a mellow, spaced out approach to dusty machine-powered house, while taurtollo gets into a bongo-heavy jam for the eclectic warm up session. chambers -the gentleman- is a loose and smooth jazzy number that revolves around a few key samples to create its seductive vibe, and then yadava finishes the ep off with the free-roaming double bass exploration of -kadampa 125.-

the whiskey pickle crew turn their attention to a new partnership from steve cobby and laurie welton, the former being known for decades of djing, label management and producing alongside the likes of stephen mallinder for throne of blood. here the emphasis, as expected with whiskey pickle, is on disco with a slight leaning to the left. -absolute- is a bubbling jam laden with illustrious threads of melody, cosmic in nature but still rooted thanks to a rock solid rhythm section. -limoncello- is a more introspective affair that works with minor chords and a more intricate set of drums, but don t be fooled the groove is very much still intact. new york duo whatever/whatever bring a tougher dynamic to -absolute,- dialing in some beefy beats and amping up the synth touches for a surefire house heater. played by
